House Committee on Health Care Reform to America: Sit Down, Shut Up and Take It

Democracy - We Don't Need No Stinkin Democracy

Normally when legislation is introduced in Congress it is sent to a committee which holds hearings.  In these hearings various witnesses from each side are allowed to make statements and answer questions.  Even though the members of Congress have already made up their mind on the legislation before it is even introduced, this process gives the appearance of fairness and allows the public to hear an actual debate.

Of course those rules don't apply to Republicans.  Eager to rush their health care legislation through Congress the House Ways and Means Committee voted to approve it in the middle of the night, with no witnesses and little debate.  Why?  The know that time and sunshine would defeat their odious proposals, so democracy be damned.
