Mitt Romney Thinks Middle Class Family Income is $200,000 to $250,000 a Year

Well Actually He Thinks That’s a Poor Family, At Least as Far as His Friends and Associates are Concerned

When the Census Department published its annual study of family income it found that after adjusting for inflation the median family income of $50,000 in 2011 was the same as it was 15 years earlier.  The median family, the people in the middle of the middle class are the same as they were 15 years ago.

This fact, like many other facts is lost on Republican Presidential candidate Mitt Romney, in whose mind the middle class is a family with about $200,000 to $250,000 a year.

Frobes Reports on the
Romney Middle Class Folks

"No one can say my plan is going to raise taxes on middle-income people, because principle number one is (to) keep the burden down on middle-income taxpayers," Romney told host George Stephanopoulos.

"Is $100,000 middle income?" Stephanopoulos asked.

"No, middle income is $200,000 to $250,000 and less," Romney responded.

Of course in the real world, the one with facts and data and statistics what Mr. Romney thinks is the middle class is really less than 5% of the total families in the nation.  But Mr. Romney has never let reality get in the way of his campaign, so why would anyone expect him to do so now.

  1. Let's try to give Romney the benefit of the doubt:

-He said "and less," so he really meant anyone who makes $250,000 or less. In other news, there are no poor people in Romney's America, only middle income and rich people.

-He said he wants to help middle income people, so he's generously expanding the definition of "middle income" as widely as possible so he helps more people. We all know that in Romney's America, rich people get no help from government policies and tremendous amounts of resources are diverted to middle income people (i.e., everyone else).

So clearly, Romney must be saying he supports Obama's policy of reducing burdens on everyone who makes $250,000 or less. Anything else would mean that Romney doesn't have the foggiest notion of how much ordinary people make in this country. Which is ... well, based on his many other gaffes, the likeliest scenario. So nevermind, he does not agree with Obama, he is just absurdly out of touch.

  2. And Obama thinks that anyone who makes over $200,000 is a "millionaire or billionaire."
