I wasn't aware thst we stll had a labor movement in this country. If we do, it's on life support, if not actually moribund. Union membership has been declining steadily for a generation. Labor unions have little political clout, and have become a captive consituency of a political party that has ignored their legislative agenda for the past four years and treats them with contempt (e.g., the Democratic Party leadership's decision to hold its convention in a virulently anti-union state). Let's face it, on Monday we will not be celebrating the labor movement. Rather, we will be lamenting its demise.
