Fact and Fantasy on the Editorial Pages of the WSJ

The Editorial Pages of the WSJ did their usual fine job of accurately commenting on conditions in another universe, but in this one, not so good.

Dick Armey and Matt Kibbe, leaders of one of the many Tea Party groups weigh in on Medicare and the Ryan Plan.  The talk about how the plan does not end Medicare as we know it, (which it does unless of course the Republicans adopt the Dismal Political Economist strategy), and they repeat the lie that the Ryan Plan is just like what Congress has, which it isn’t.

In a level of absurdity The Dismal Political Economist did not think possible they advocate letting people opt out of medical insurance so that they gain something more precious, the freedom to go without insurance buy whatever they want.  Really, that’s what they say.

Kimberly Strassel makes fun of Mr. Gingrich and his “big ideas” of which she fails to find any, much like we did not, see our Newt Gingrich Mock Interview.  She then goes on to criticize all the Republican candidates, and apparently looks to Mr. Christie, Mr. Ryan and others for saving the Party.  Really, she does.

Finally Seth Lipsky has his usual inchorent piece, this time on gold.  He wants a couple of things.  First a return to sound money.  Well, since sound money means low inflation, we are already there.  You would think he would know that.  He seems to want to return to an economy where dollars are convertible into gold.  Well we are already there too.  Take your dollars and buy gold, go ahead, it’s not that hard.
