Six Questions to Ask Conservatives

And Six Answers You Are Not Likely to Get

As the long holiday weekend wears on and we are all looking for entertainment, The Dismal Political Economists suggests posing the following six questions to Conservatives. And in the spirit of the process, here are six answers that you probably will not receive.

Question 1.  If the Paul Ryan Medicare proposal is a good as he says it is, why wait 10 years, why not put it in place now?

Answer:  We need to wait until the people who voted for it have left office so we can blame them for it when seniors see how high their health costs go.

Question 2.  Since Conservatives believe that matters not delegated to the federal government should be settled at the state level, shouldn’t gay marriage be determined at the state level?

Answer:  Some states just will not settle these issues in the way we like. 

Question 3.  And speaking of gay/lesbian marriage, can you give us an example of how a marriage between straight people is adversely affected by a gay marriage?

Answer:  If we could don’t you think we would have done so by now.

Question 4.  Conservatives want a balanced budget to prevent debt from accruing to our children.  What about the cost of cleaning up the environment, don’t we want to control pollution to keep our kids from have to deal with it?

Answer:  We make a good buck off of polluting the environment.

Question 5.  Conservatives support having religion in public schools.  What if the religion being taught is the Muslim religion?

Answer:  We support the right religion being taught, Freedom of Religion is the right to choose the right religion, not just any religion.

Question 6.  Some Conservative support a Flat Tax, which they call a Fair Tax.  Why do they call it a Fair Tax when it would shift some of the tax burden from the rich to the middle class?

Answer:  Because that’s what we mean by “fair”.
