Mitt Romney on the Daytona 500 NASCAR Race – “I Just Love Cars”

No, Make that Car Team Owners

The fact that Mitt Romney is very rich does not disqualify him from being President of the United States. Franklin Roosevelt and John Kennedy were great leaders who came from very wealthy families. The fact that Mr. Romney has no clue about the part of the world that is not rich does not make him a very attractive candidate.  Here is Mr. Romney waxing poetic on the sport of stock car racing.

Romney was at Daytona last year and said he also has been to the track in New Hampshire. Does he follow the sport?

"Not as closely as some of the most ardent fans," he said. "But I have some friends who are NASCAR team owners."

In this same vein one can easily imagine the answer Mr. Romney might give to similar questions.  For example on baseball

Romney was in New York and was asked if he followed the Yankees.

“Not as closely as some of the most ardent fans” he said, “But I have some friends who are Major League team owners.”

And on foreign policy

Romney was at the United Nations and was asked if liked foreign countries.

“Not as much as some” he said, “But I have some friends who own several foreign countries.”

And on Real Estate

Romney was asked how many homes he owned and said

“Only five or seven, but I have some friends who own ten or twelve.”

And whether or not he likes a nice meal

Romney was asked if he likes a good steak dinner

“Not as well as some meat lovers” he said, “but I have some friends who own chains of restaurants, and two who own about a third of the state of Texas.”

So there you have it, Mitt Romney, just one of the regular guys.
