Ohio Republican Governor Turns Down Federal Disaster Aid After Tornadoes Devastate Areas

Governor Probably Thinks Tornadoes Only Damaged Democrats – They Certainly Didn’t Harm Him

One of the good things our tax monies do is to provide financial help and  relief for areas of the country that are severely damaged by natural disasters such as floods, blizzards and tornadoes.  These programs are largely non-partisan, and government officials of all philosophies accept the fact that the Federal government in many cases is the only organization with the financial wherewithal to be of major help.

So when the tornadoes of last week hit the Midwest, both Indiana with its staunchly Republican Governor and Kentucky with its Democratic Governor welcomed federal assistance.  But Ohio’s ultra conservative Governor John Kasich said no thanks.

Ohio Gov. John Kasich said thanks but no thanks to immediate federal disaster relief Saturday, even as governors in Indiana and Kentucky welcomed the help.

Kasich did not rule out asking for assistance later, but his decision means tornado-ravaged towns in Ohio will not get federal aid now and are not eligible at this time for potentially millions of dollars in payments and loans.

The governor said Ohio can respond to the crisis without federal help and he would not ask federal authorities to declare the region a disaster area.

Yes, this is obviously politics, Mr. Kasich wanting to show Conservatives that ‘we don’t need no stinking federal govment’ and so he is willing to sacrifice the well being of is citizens for his own political pleasure.

See, just when you thought Conservatives could not get any more selfish and destructive to others, Mr. Kasich comes along.  Expect Rush Limbaugh to praise Mr. Kasich, and to condemn those that accept Federal assistance as ‘sluts and prostitutes’ whose parents should be ashamed.
