Another New York Special House Election

Hopefully Not Much Drama This Time

The resignation of Anthony Weiner in New York’s 9th Congressional District will require a special election to replace him.

This time it is not expected to be the major national story that the previous Special Election in the NY 26th District was earlier this year.  This is because the District is heavily Democratic, and appears to be slated for demolition in the re-districting process.  New York State must lose two seats in the House, and Mr. Weiner’s District seems a prime candidate.

So the trick will be to find a good Democrat who wants to be a member of Congress for about 15 months. Republicans could try to make a race of it to try and preserve the seat as a Republican one, forcing Democrats to jettison some other incumbent, but this seems unlikely.

And to Karl Rove, The Dismal Political Economist knows it will be difficult but try to keep your spending in support of some poor Republican to under $1 million.  We know you have unlimited funds, but  don’t keep wasting them.
