Incontrovertible Proof That President Obama is Pursuing the Wrong Deficit Reduction Policy

It Doesn’t Get Any Stronger Than This

Karl Rove is a former political consultant from Texas.  Mr. Rove rose to prominence by directing the campaigns that won George W. Bush two elections as Governor of Texas and two elections (well maybe one) as President of the United States.  That Mr. Rove was able to take an individual whose qualifications were hardly enough to serve as Vice Chairman of the local Chamber of Commerce and get him elected four times to high offices says a lot about the political acumen of Mr. Rove.

Mr. Rove is now ensconced exactly where you thing he would be.  He spews forth partisan right wing opinions for Fox News and writes pithy partisan commentary for the Wall Street Journal. He is also the front man for a group that raises tens of millions from very wealthy right wing political donors to support right wing Republican candidates.  In fact, he recently wasted several million of his patrons’ dollars in a losing effort in New York State’s Special Election in the 26th District.

Mr. Rove wants more than anything else to see President Obama defeated in the 2012 election.  So when he writes in the Wall Street Journal that Mr. Obama

Could help his re-election prospects by getting serious about spending cuts

we know for certain that if Mr. Obama pursues massive spending cuts he will be seriously reducing his chances for re-election.

So Mr. Obama, not only is your current negotiating position with Republicans bad economic policy, it is also bad political policy.  The applicable rule here is that if you find yourself aligned with recommendations of Karl Rove, you know for certain you are doing the wrong thing, even if you do not know what the topic is.

Continue your current strategy and you will earn the title “Former President” far sooner than you had intended.  Trust us on this, that is what Mr. Rove wants and that is the likely result of following his advice.
