Are Conservatives Really This Mean? – Apparently So
The budget negotiations to set federal spending and avoid
any more shutdowns for a while are completed and awaiting approval, and one of the issues was extension of unemployment benefits. Here
is the incredible statements of Rand Paul, a Kentucky Republican Senator who is
actually considered a serious Presidential contender.
Democratic attempts to extend unemployment benefits for
1.3 million workers were a "disservice" to the unemployed, Sen. Rand
Paul said Sunday.
"I support unemployment benefits for the 28 weeks
they're paid for," the Kentucky
Republican said on "Fox News Sunday." "If you extend it beyond
that, you do a disservice to these workers."
Wow, paying unemployment benefits to the long term
unemployed, paying them money to put food on the table, pay the mortgage, make
the car payments so they can drive to job interviews is doing them a
disservice.
Rand Paul of course grew up in relative prosperity, his
daddy had a great paying government job so no problems for Rand Paul. But one can hope that after the 2016 election
he will be unemployed. And while he will
not need unemployment benefits to keep the wolf from the door, maybe the
experience will give him some small dose of compassion and sympathy. We doubt it though, a man as cruel and mean
as Rand Paul, a man who want to punish the unemployed rather than help them is
probably immune to any attack of decency.
