Arizona Republicans Remove Congressional Districting Commission Independent Head

The Complaint: She Was an Independent

Arizona has a five member Commission, composed of two Democrats, two Republicans and an Independent who serves as Head of the Commission to draw Congressional lines.  Republicans in the state, who control the government were furious
that a Congressional map drafted by the commission this month would make it possible for Democrats to gain seats in Republican-controlled Arizona.

An unnamed Republican spokesperson was quoted as saying that the party supports an independent process for Congressional districts as long as that process results in an advantage to Republicans.

In other news Republicans have proposed the following.

  1. Changing baseball rules so that the Texas Rangers actually won the recently completed World Series instead of the St. Louis Cardinals.  Their rationale is that Texas is larger than St. Louis, and has more Republicans and deserves to have won the title.

  1. Redefining the Electoral College so that states that vote Republican get “bonus” electoral votes.  Justice Scalia has given several speeches in which he said that was the "original intent" of the founding fathers and that such a structure would return America to its true roots, those roots being where only men who owned property were allowed to vote.

  1. Allowing referees for football games in states that vote Republican to be selected by Republicans when games are played against teams from states that voted Democratic.

  1. Amending the Constitution to allow appeals from Capital Punishment sentences to take place only after the person has been executed.  Justice Thomas supports the idea saying this will allow the timely carrying out of capital sentences while at the same time preserving the rights to appeal.

  1. Requiring two thirds of the vote to elect an Democrat to office, while requiring one third of the vote to elect a Republican.  This will average out of a fifty percent requirement said Republicans while preserving the integrity of the voting process.

Rumors that North Korea, Vietnam and Venezuela were considering sending election monitors to Arizona to ensure that voting was fair and open have not been confirmed.
