Just the First in a Long Line of Aspirants
Conservatives sometimes serve useful functions. For example they want to get government out
of people’s personal lives. But then
they go ahead and ruin it by going back on their principles when they want
government to interfere in personal lives to make people behave the way they
want them to behave. Case in point,
their opposition to rights for minorities, immigrants and the LGBT community.
The
latest betrayal by conservatives is on the deficit.
Some of the most
conservative members of Congress say they are ready to vote for a budget that
would — at least on paper — balloon the deficit to more than $1 trillion by the
end of the decade, all for the sake of eventually repealing the Affordable Care
Act.
In a dramatic
reversal, many members of the hard-line House Freedom Caucus said Thursday they
are prepared later this month to support a budget measure that would explode
the deficit and increase the public debt to more than $29.1 trillion by 2026, figures
contained in the budget resolution itself.
Yessir, one thing constant in this world is that you can
count of conservatives not to stand on anything. So we say welcome Freedom Caucus as the
charter members of the DPE’s Hypocrisy Hall of Fame. Don’t feel lonely, other members of
government will soon be joining you, but they may never aspire to the heights
of hypocrisy that you have obtained.
