Will Kill Deal But Not Kill Deal – Huh

Politico is reporting that the Trumpian strategy towards the Iranian deal is one that upon close examination is so stupid, so naive, so misguided and so ineffective that the result will be the rest of the world laughing at Trumpie. Trump wants to kill the deal, but the consequences are so large that he can't kill the deal. So here is what he is going to do.

Donald Trump’s national security team has unanimously recommended that he decertify the Iran nuclear deal – but that he stop short of pushing Congress to reimpose sanctions on Tehran that could unravel the agreement.

The impact of this action, zero. Nothing will change, it is just that instead of certifying that Iran is in compliance Trump will not certify that Iran is in compliance. But nothing else is expected to change. Congress will not reimpose sanctions, trade with Iran will not stop, Europe will not change its actions with respect to Iran and everyone stays the same.

So why do it? Well Trump's base is, to be polite, ignorant and can be easily fooled. So Trump will be able to tell his gullibles that he killed the deal when in fact he did nothing. And being as gullible as they are, the base will cheer and cheer. The rest of us, well we will just be astounded at how easy it is to fool the conservatives.
