Compare Him to the Current Resident at
1600 Penn
Senator John McCain may be one of the
most complex individuals ever to be in public life. A war hero, he
got caught up in a scandal with Charles Keating when he got to
Congress. As a presidential candidate in 2000 he was open and
honest. As one in 2008 he was towing the Republican line but then
had a moment of pure character when he defended Obama against a
scurrilous personal attack.
Now he is dying, as is evident as he
marches down the corridors of the Senate. But he is still at work,
still trying, still standing up for his principles and one can only
admire that even as one disagrees with some of those principles.
