75% of Homes in the Florida Keys May Be Saved

No Thanks to Conservatives

One of the most amazing statistics to come out of Hurricane Irma's path of destruction is that 25% of the homes in the Florida Keys were destroyed or damaged. This is remarkable, one would have expected only 25% of the houses to survive given the ferocity of the storm.

One expects that the major reason why so many homes were not destroyed is that government played a huge role. In this case it is building codes that made houses hurricane proof. Yes this is strong control by government but the results cannot be argued with if the data holds up. And yes, this is the sort of thing conservatives hate; they believe everyone should have the freedom to build as they see fit. There is a name for that, Houston.
