Andrew Cuomo Gets A Primary Challenge in New York

And It's Both an Opportunity and a Problem

It is not clear if New York Governor Andy Cuomo is Presidential material. A great pedigree, long term government service and a not too bad governor of New York should mean he is a front runner for the Democratic nomination. But the whiff of corruption surrounds him, and he is not the progressive nor the speaker his father was.

Now he has a primary challenge from actress Cynthia Nixon. Yes he leads by 40 points at this point in time, but New York has a very late primary and September is a long ways away. And a Cuomo surrogate did not help things with this comment.

Cynthia Nixon was opposed to having a qualified lesbian become mayor of New York City,” Ms. Quinn told The New York Post, referring to her own candidacy. “Now she wants to be an unqualified lesbian to be the governor of New York. You have to be qualified and have experience.”

Yeah, pretty offensive and it puts Andy is a difficult position. If Ms. Nixon proves to be a credible candidate, watch out Andrew.  But if Cuomo can show himself to be an articulare campaigner who supports the people Dems must appeal to in order to win elections, then he catapults to the top.

Ball is in your court Mr. Cuomo.
