California Republican Legislators Don’t Have Time To Legislate

Being Obstructionist Just Takes Every Minute They Have

In the 2010 election one result that went against the tide of Republican victories was the election of former Democratic California governor Jerry Brown to a new stint in that office.  Mr. Brown campaigned on the need to both cut spending and raise taxes to balance California’s budget.  Republicans in the state legislature went along with the cuts, but refused to allow a state referendum on raising taxes, democracy not really being their thing.

What California Republican Legislators Do
 Instead of Legislating

Before the current legislative session ended, Mr. Brown made another attempt and offered what would seem like a no-brainer.

In late August, Mr. Brown unveiled a"California Jobs First" plan to close a tax loophole benefiting out-of-state companies while offering tax breaks to in-state businesses. The proposal fell apart, however, when he couldn't attract support from GOP senators, including Mr. Strickland, who said he didn't have time to review it and make a decision.

That’s right, the GOP legislators “didn’t have time to review it”.  Presumably the Republican legislators did have time to pick up their paychecks, you know, the money they get for being legislators.

There are now at least two unfathomable questions,

One is, “What is the Meaning of Life?” and the second one is “How do Republicans in California Keep Getting Elected?”  The first may be answered before the second.
