This is True – Coal Finished in
Second Place
One of the cruelest aspects of a cruel
president is the fostering of the belief that the coal mining
industry can stage a vigorous comeback. This fantasy is based on
the false belief that coal would prosper if only the regulations
restricting it were removed.
Describing
the Obama-era regulation as the “so-called Clean Power Plan,” the
E.P.A. statement said that repealing the measure “will also
facilitate the development of U.S. energy resources and reduce
unnecessary regulatory burdens associated with the development of
those resources.”
The truth of the matter of course is
that economics and pollution doomed coal. The economics of coal mean
that it is no longer feasible for coal to be used to fuel power
plants. As far as pollution is concerned coal destroys the
environment where it is mined, destroys the air when it is burned and
even destroys the ground when coal ash is disposed of.
But as long as votes can be secured by
fooling some of the people all of the time the EPA under pollution
advocate Scott Pruit will continue to promote the false hopes of coal
mining states.
History will not be kind to these
people.
