FERC Wants Rate Payers to Subsidize Coal Fired Power Plants

GOP Tries to Pick Winners and Losers, and Picks a Loser

One of the basic tenets of conservatives is that the free market needs to be free of government interference. They continually call for the government to refrain from picking winners and loser by interfering or subsidizing the market. But it turns out like all of their other positions they really don't believe this, they just want themselves to do the picking.

Some power customers may need to be hit with higher electric bills in order to prop up the declining coal-mining industry, the new chairman of a federal energy board said on Thursday.
"It would not be a federal subsidy," Federal Energy Regulatory Commission Chairman Neil Chatterjee, a Kentucky native and former adviser to Sen. Mitch McConnell, insisted in a conference call with Kentucky reporters.

Gosh, make rate payers pay higher rates to support a dying industry. How ugly is this.
