WSJ’s Kimberly Strassel Raves About What Trump Got Done This Week

Well, Ok, Somebody Has to be Apologist in Chief

For pure comedic effect there is nothing like an opinion piece in the WSJ.  Recently it was Kimberly Strassel’s turn to provide the gales of laughter.  Ms. Strassel laments the lack of news coverage of Donnie Triumphs.

Here’s what actually happened this week, the “news” that holds real consequences for real Americans:

Ok, to be fair let’s see what Ms. Strassel regards as real accomplishments of the Trumpies.

Interior Secretary Ryan Zinke signed an order to begin reopening Alaska’s National Petroleum Reserve to oil and gas exploration, reversing the Obama administration’s ideologically driven 2013 shutdown.

Uh, maybe Ms. Strassel doesn’t know about the oil glut, or that the major threat to energy prices is OPEC lead by Trump’s BFF the Saudis.

In related news, the Dakota Access Pipeline finally went live.

Uh, not really.  A whole lot of paper work and lawsuits are ahead.  This ain’t happening fast.  Oh yes, Trump promised the pipeline would use U. S. steel.  That ain’t gonna happen.

The Fish and Wildlife Service took steps that may stop the Obama administration’s last-minute endangered-species listing for the Texas Hornshell, a freshwater mussel. 

Wow!  Real Americans must be ecstatic over that, particularly all seven who know what a Texas Hornshell is.

Commerce Secretary Wilbur Ross surprisingly said that he was open to completing the Transatlantic Trade and Investment Partnership, or TTIP, a far-reaching trade agreement being negotiated with the European Union.

We defer to Ms. Strassel on this, we have no idea what the TTIP is.  But if the Trump group is talking about completing it then it must be something Obama started.  Maybe a little credit for Barry here.  Of course, Trump has just made negotiating with the EU like 10 times harder than it was before.

Sen. John Thune, the upper chamber’s third-ranking Republican, said his caucus had moved beyond meetings and on to “drafting” the base language of an ObamaCare replacement. The No. 2 Republican, John Cornyn, vowed the Senate would “absolutely” have a bill by “the end of July at the latest.”

How this qualifies as something accomplished is another thing beyond us.  And ssince it is something that Senaors are doing,  if it does take place why the Trump administration should take credit for is way beyond us.

And finally, there is this outright lie.

New numbers showed the private economy adding a rip-roaring 253,000 jobs in May.

Uh, no.  The BLS reported on the May figures and they look like this.

Total nonfarm payroll employment increased by 138,000 in May, compared with an average monthly gain of 181,000 over the prior 12 months. In May, job gains occurred in health care and mining.

But remember, conservatives are faith based, not fact based.  And besides, since Ms. Strassel was probably fed her information by a publicity hack from the administration, all of this is not her fault.  Let’s not blame the sycophant.
