White House Chief of Staff Plans to Leave After the 2012 Election

Does He Know Something The Rest of Us Only Expect?

William Daley, of the Chicago Daley’s became the Chief of Staff for Mr. Obama after Rahm Emanuel, of the Chicago Emanuel’s left that job to become Mayor of the City of Chicago, following Richard Daley of the Chicago Daley’s.  Now Mr. Daley (William, not Richard) has announced that he will be leaving his post after the 2012 election.

I made a commitment with the president through his re-election, which I am confident he will do, and then my wife and I will be back in Chicago,” Daley told NBC News affiliate WMAQ in an interview posted online Monday

Now the Chief of Staff at the White House is an important position, but one that the general public neither knows about nor cares about.  Mr. Emmanuel was supposed to be a great one, a person who was very aggressive in support of the President.  That didn’t turn out so well, (see Health Care Plan and Weak Stimulus etc).  Mr. Daley was supposed to be the person who would gain consensus in Washington.  That didn’t turn out so well (see Debt Ceiling deal, etc).

Anyway, it is not clear why Mr. Daley is making his intentions known at this time, but one largely suspects he wanted to do it early to avoid the 2012 rush.
